Counselling
KWC is committed to providing a free, safe, confidential service which abides by the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards of the National Association of Counsellors (NZAC). The team of dedicated volunteer counsellors are able to offer you around eight counselling sessions. A detailed information booklet on this free service is available from the Kapiti Womens Centre.
KWC would like to acknowledge the generous support for the counselling programme from Family & Community Services and the Box Trust.
1 – Getting a counselling appointment
To organise a counselling appointment you will first need to read the information booklet on the service. The booklet is available for the Kapiti Women’s Centre. This booklet outlines how counselling at KWC works, what is required of you, what you can expect from us and profiles the counsellors. (more…)
2 – Your first counselling session
KWC has very limited staff and is unable to gather information prior to you beginning counselling. So during your first session, the Counsellor will be gathering information, explaining the requirements of the KWC counselling service, telling you a little about themselves and their experience. (more…)
3 – The counselling room
The counselling room at KWC is small. If you have children, please make arrangements for their care during your sessions. The staff at KWC cannot supervise them.
4 – Being contacted at KWC
If you have asked someone to contact you at the Centre or to take you home, please inform the duty Centre Worker. Without this information the confidentiality policy at KWC does not allow them to confirm that you are in the building.
5 – Valuing our service
After your first and last counselling sessions, you will be asked to complete an evaluation form. The evaluation of the KWC Counselling Service is important for us and ensures the service is the best it can be. (more…)
6 – Cancellations
Because of the high demand for the counselling service, you must make every effort to come to your appointments. If you can’t make any session, we ask that you notify the Centre at least 24 hours before your appointment. Any late cancellations will be included in your allocation of eight sessions. Remember, other women are on the waiting list and missed appointments delay their access to counselling.
7 – What can I do if I have concerns about my counselling?
KWC has a policy of providing excellent service to the women and children in our community. We know that we can only improve if we are aware of what we could be doing better. (more…)
8 – Confidentiality of the counselling service at KWC
Although the counselling service at KWC is confidential there are limitations to that confidentiality. You will be asked to sign a document which says that you agree with these limitations. (more…)
