Kapiti Women's Centre - Women supporting women

Services at KWC

KWC is a warm, friendly, safe and caring environment for women to come and enjoy. We provide a range of services either free or at very low cost.

KWC prides itself on the supportive and confidential service we provide for the women on the Kapiti Coast.

Clothing exchange:

We offer a range of pre-loved adults and children’s clothing. These are available to all women at no cost. The clothes are donated by women in the community. It is not unusual to see clothes returned to be re-loved when they have been outgrown or no longer used. Please come and help yourself.

Condoms:

KWC provides free condoms to all women. These are available from the bathroom at the Centre and women are encouraged to help themselves as they need. KWC is very grateful to the Porirua Family Planning Association for their support in enabling this service to be provided.

We would also encourage you to come in and have a cup of tea or coffee, change your baby, or read a magazine. KWC is there for the women and their children in our community.

The “Information boxes” contain information, articles and resources about topics relevant to women and their children. These include information on social issues, health, legal systems and procedures, education, parenting and many other topics.

The noticeboards are the place to find information about what is happening in our community; events coming up; educational opportunities; lesbian links and information; current health information and items of general interest.

Pregnancy tests:

KWC provides a free pregnancy testing service. The test must be done at the Centre by a Centre Worker. Their training ensures that they are aware of confidentiality issues and will treat any requests for tests discretely and with respect. They are also able to assist in exploring options and providing information after a test.

KWC is very grateful to Doctor Alison Payne from Coastal Medical Rooms and Valley Diagnostic for their assistance in providing the resources for this service.

Referral:

The Centre Workers at KWC have an extensive knowledge of what is available in our community and what they do not know they can find out for you. If you are not sure where to go for a service you may require, please ask the Centre Worker, she will do her utmost to assist.

Womens Opinion Files:

For a variety of reasons, women are often unsure who to access for health assistance or which tradespeople to contract. To help other women, KWC encourages women to record both their positive and negative experiences of local practitioners and tradespeople. These opinions are not the opinions of KWC.
