Kapiti Women's Centre - Women supporting women

HUB Management Team

There are many ways a women can become involved at Kapiti Women's Centre, one of these is to become part of the management team or HUB.  HUB meets monthly to discuss and implement business and planning procedures for KWC.  Some of our HUB members have been involved with other aspects of KWC life including positions of Centre Worker and Administration Assistant.  Here are our HUB member profiles which will give an overview of just how diverse a group of women the HUB team is.

Marie has really enjoyed her involvment with KWC over the last 4 years which has seen her undertake different roles.  She is currently involved with the HUB management group and has had the privilege of seeing HUB grow as a unit which is much more practical and supportive to the Collective of KWC.  The monthly meetings are very proactive and not at all onerous, with fun and laughter also on the agenda. "I have personally gained from my connection with KWC, as a mum of 2 littlies it has been a space to be 'just me' and I have had the opportunity to meet some wonderful women and friends."

Esther was born in Singapore, has lived in Hobart, Australia, and now happily settled in New Zealand.  Esther enjoys travelling, reading, horseback riding and skiing. Along with studying for a business degree, she does a wonderful job as treasurer for the KWC, is a great supporter and an enthusiastic fundraiser. She showed an interest in being part of the collective at KWC and was ethusiastically encouraged to join HUB.  This has been a good opportunity for her to use her IT skills and implement her great ideas on how to promote the Centre.  Esther is a valued addition to the team!

Trish joined the collective as a Centre Worker in June 2005. Since then she has trained as a Centre Worker, graduating in July and working for 18 months in this role. Due to the pressures of her study and her new paid position Trish decided to leave the Center Worker team, but such is her dedication to KWC, she became a member of HUB - the management team.  In her referee checks people said that Trish was “well-organised and makes things happen”. That “she gets on with differing groups of people, has great listening skills, is cool, calm and a good heart!’. Trish is these things and more. In both roles she has willingly given her very best to ensure KWC is a vital, evolving place. What they didn’t tell us was how much fun she is, that she is a leader in making mischief and ensuring that our work is not boring. Trish shares herself with those who come in contact with her and touches all with her wisdom, thoughtful questioning, care, concern and joy of living.

After working and living in the Cook Islands for five years my philosophy of life changed for the better. Living in a laid back Pacific Island other things became more important. It was easy to be positive about living, enjoyment of life and the importance of people from all walks of life. I became involved with a wonderful women’s organisation; Pan Pacific South East Asian Women’s Association. In 1998 I travelled to Kuala Lumpur for an International Conference with the Cook Islands charter and then returned in 2000 to help the Cook Island women stage the International Conference in Rarotonga.  Betty first visited KWC to deliver information about the Business Professional Women’s Second Chance Scholarship. "When I walked in the door I sensed a warm inviting atmosphere and at this point in time I was looking at more opportunities to be involved in the local community. I offered my services and have attended HUB meetings. I feel that women have the power to make changes and make a difference in the community. We have all had our share of life experiences that have enabled us to grow stronger and accept challenges and if we can help others along their journey in life then that is a worthwhile contribution to make.

Heather has been teaching the Feldenkrais Method at KWC for a number of years now and been very impressed by the energy and dedication of the women involved with the organisation.  "I have for sometime been wanting to give something back to the community and what better place to start than with women of like mind, purpose and intention.  After asking if there would be a slot that I might fill, I was drafted to HUB and am enjoying the commitment and the company."

Ness has been involved at KWC in a Centre Worker capacity for 3 years now and loves it!  A change in life's dynamics forced her to give up her Centre work for a while but she felt the need to still be involved as much as possible for herself, so HUB was very attractive at that time.  She has since resumed her Centre Worker duties and currently performing both positions to a satisfactory degree and loving it.  "The KWC is an inspiration and I wish to be part of it for as long as possible."
