Girlz Night Out at Lembas Cafe – 15th November
Gail Lewis, owner of Lembas Cafe, has been one of our many amazing supporters of the Kapiti Women’s Centre’s fundraising. On Tuesday evening, 15th November, Gail hosted a Girlz Night Out at Lembas Cafe. It was a night of fashion and glamour for all the women who attended, with clothing, shoe, jewellery and accessory designers showing off their wares. We were greeted with a glass of bubbles and enjoyed delicious fingerfood throughout the evening. All the proceeds of this fabulous evening were donated to our building fund.
White Ribbon Day – 25 November
The KWC baking team baked and iced over 1,200 White Ribbon biscuits for the Voices Against Violence group. These were handed out early morning to the bus and train commuters on White Ribbon Day.
Ambrose Golf Tournament
Our Ambrose Golf Tournament was held on 13 October at the Kapiti Golf Course. Eleven teams competed in showery weather for some wonderful prizes and we raised $2,348.75 for our Building Fund.
KWC Quiz Night
Our Masquerade Quiz Night held on 23 September was a great success raising $8,289.83 for our Building Fund.
Strategic Planning Meeting – 9 July
The KWC Collective held their Strategic Planning Meeting on 9 July and we were very aware of our need for more space at the KWC.
Mid Winter Swim – 12 June
Julie and Helen were the KWC entrants to brave the freezing water at this year’s mid winter swim. They decided on a sea creatures theme this year and they raised $120.00.
Ballantyne’s Fashion Parade – 25 May
Our Ballantyne’s Fashion Show was extremely successful and it was great fun. We raised $2,217.00 from the evening which was a significant contribution to our Building Fund. The models enjoyed “strutting their stuff” on the catwalk and the Ballantyne’s garments looked absolutely beautiful on them.
Hui 2011 – 26 and 27 March
The KWC Collective had a great time at Hui, lots of eating, laughter, fun and games, as well at strategic planning meetings and planning towards our new building extension.
International Women’s Day – 8 March
A ceremony to mark International Women’s Day was held in the Suffrage Centenary Garden at Ngahina Street. The garden was a joint venture between the KWC and the Kapiti Coast District Council. Kapity Mayor, Jenny Rowan, and other guests planted camellias in the garden on the day and a special mosaic sign was created by the women at KWC. An afternoon tea was served in the garden after the official ceremony.
Big Dig
The Kapiti Women’s Centre was chosen to share the proceeds of this year’s Big Dig and we provided a sausage sizzle during the morning. The sausage sizzle raised $360.00 for our building fund along with a very generous cheque from Rotary for $1,143.00.
Kapiti Women’s Triathlon – 26 and 27 February
Once again the Kapiti Women’s Centre organised the registration for the Kapiti Women’s Triathlon and did a wonderful job. It is a fantastic event to be a part of and very inspiring to see so many women competing.
